Making it legal is simpler than you think!
One of the questions I'm asked most often is: "But is a celebrant wedding actually legal?"
The short answer is: not on its own – but making it legal is so straightforward, and inexpensive, that it really needn't be a worry. In fact, most couples are genuinely surprised by how easy it is.
Here's how it works. Before or after your celebrant ceremony, you simply visit your local register office and book what's called a statutory marriage (sometimes called a simple marriage). This is a short, no-frills appointment – just you, two witnesses, the registrars, and the legal words. It takes around fifteen minutes, costs very little, and can be kept as quiet or as private as you like. Some couples treat it as a lovely intimate moment with just their closest people; others prefer to slip in and out without any fuss at all. I can even recommend witnesses for hire if you'd rather keep this part completely separate from your celebrations.
Your celebrant ceremony – the one your guests attend, the one with your personal vows, your chosen readings, your music, your rituals – is entirely yours. This is where where your story gets told.
I guide all my couples through the legal process from start to finish, so you'll never feel like you're navigating it alone. By the time your celebration day arrives, the paperwork is done and you can focus entirely on what matters: each other, and the people you love.
Have a question about the legal side of things? Just get in touch – I'm always happy to chat things through.
